The department has two emergency and seven holding area beds where the children are monitored and stabilized. The emergency room is well equipped with monitors, medication and trained personnel who are available round-the-clock.
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) here, started 10 years ago, was the first separate PICU in the private sector in Madras. It was completely renovated in 2004 at a cost of Rs. 1 crore and currently has 17 beds (10 ICU and 7 High Dependency). It is a purpose built, state-of-the art facility and every effort has been taken to meet the current guidelines for ICU’s, especially with reference to bed space, air conditioning, and infection control. There are two isolation suites equipped with High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters and positive/negative air pressure systems.
