
KKCTH NICE Rehabilitation Services: Comprehensive Care
Our Integrated Rehabilitation Unit, was inaugurated on April 15, 2024, in partnership with NICE, Chennai, under the expert leadership of Dr. Subramanian, Director of NICE. This unit offers comprehensive screening, assessment, and coordinated care for patients in need of intense rehabilitation and therapeutic support.
By enhancing screening processes and facilitating early referrals, pediatric patients at KKCTH are provided with the highest standard of intervention and treatment, enabling each child to achieve their fullest potential.

Facilities and Resources
As part of a pediatric hospital, we have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources that enhance the delivery of our rehabilitation services. Our dedicated therapy rooms are well-equipped to support the unique needs of children with various conditions.
We offer services for children from birth to 18 years of age, available as outpatient services, inpatient services, and rehab in NICU and PICU.
In-Patient Services
We work to rehabilitate children admitted for traumatic brain injury, neurological disorders, effects of deconditioning due to complex illness, and other major types of trauma.
Rehabilitation in wards to prepare your child to get ready to go home and we continue services even after discharge through outpatient rehab services.
We work to support the safe transition from hospital to discharge, home environment assessment to support the child post discharge and liaising with other agencies to plan any long-term needs.
NICU/PICU – We focus on Early Mobilization, Developmentally Supportive Care, Swallowing Support.
Specialist Rehabilitation
Our team of specialists work to rehabilitate and maximize the potential of children with conditions including Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD- attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Down’s syndrome, DMD, Cerebral Palsy, other movement disorders, complex neurological disorders, childhood aphasia, feeding and swallowing disorders, cleft lip and palate, and multiple disorders.
Goals and Processes
We aim to provide rehabilitation for patients with specialist needs to help them achieve their maximum potential for physical, cognitive, social, and psychological function, participation in society, and quality of living. We facilitate this through:
- Provision of MDT assessment based on clinical considerations
- Delivery of MDT therapy input and rehabilitative environment
- Goal setting, assessment, review, and appraisal
- Periodic review and input
Specialist Rehabilitation Includes:
- Engaging in activities of daily living and creating a routine
- Mental health support to guide with new ways to look after oneself with an injury or disabilities
- Support and guidance in mainstreaming
- Support in arranging home care services, where applicable
- Physical support to increase movement, endurance, and strength
- Help with mobility, using aids and wheelchairs
- Support with communication and swallowing difficulties
- Support with mental health and emotional difficulties
- Understanding cognitive strengths
Collaborative Care
Our close collaboration with other medical specialists within the hospital ensures seamless coordination of care, addressing every aspect of a child's health and well-being comprehensively. Whether a child requires multidisciplinary care or specialized medical interventions, our hospital-based setup enables us to provide the highest level of support and expertise.
At the heart of our services is the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to live a fulfilling and meaningful life, regardless of their abilities or challenges. We work in close collaboration with the referring pediatric team to maximise the outcome for every child. The referring team will be informed of child’s visit and progress periodically.
