“THE CHILDS TRUST” was born at Chennai, on 22nd April 1978, as a Not-for Profit organisation with the objectives to provide world class health care for children (under 18 years age) irrespective of economic status, caste, creed or religion, to excel in academic activities and to conduct active research in Pediatrics and Pediatric specialties.
The word “CHILDS” was coined by the visionary founder of the hospital, Dr. M.S. Ramakrishnan to represent “Children Health Institute Laboratory and Diagnostic Services”.
During October 1999, the Management of the Hospital was taken over by the Kanchi Mutt and hence the Hospital was renamed as “Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital (KKCTH)”. Since then, the Hospital is professionally and independently run by a Board of Trustees, headed by its Chairman. True to the vision of founders, the Hospital has grown in its size, magnitude and class over the years and has become one of the largest and best Pediatric Hospitals in the South, covering all Pediatric specialties.
The Hospital provides World Class Health Care in the field of General Pediatrics, Pediatric Surgery, Neonatology and allied specialties. Since 1978, this 200 bedded hospital has been serving as a successful tertiary care referral centre for patients all over South India.
The hospital has State-of-the-Art Operation Theatres, Ultra-Modern Laboratory complex, State-of-the-Art Research Lab, Emergency, Neonatal ICU, Pediatric ICU, Well equipped digitalized radiography and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.
On the Academic side, the Hospital has become the largest Accredited Post Graduate Teaching Centre in the country and has been conferred the National Board Award for “Centre of Excellence in Teaching”. Every year, the students for the post graduate course are selected through an all India entrance exam, conducted by the National Board, at Delhi and the highest ranked candidates, always chose our Hospital, as the first choice for placement .
On the Research side, we have “The CHILDS Trust Medical Research Foundation (CTMRF)”, which is an autonomous body and is recognized as one among the three Scientific Industrial Research Organisations (SIRO) in Chennai, by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India .
Apart from being a Not-for-Profit Organisation, the Hospital is different and unique in many ways, when compared to other Corporate and Private Hospitals like compliance of ethical standards, Free/Concessional treatment to deserved people, providing Free Health Care under the “Mahaswami Rural Health Care Scheme” and Free treatment to Cancer Children.
Our hospital is certified by ISO 9001:2015, accredited by NABH, NABL and Nursing excellence.
Recently, the Government of Tamilnadu in association with the State Chapter of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has chosen our Hospital as the “BEST PEDIATRIC CARE HOSPITAL IN TAMILNADU”. Similarly the Association of Health Care Providers of India (AHPI) has selected our Hospital as the “OUTSTANDING TEACHING HOSPITAL” when declaring the AHPI Health Care Excellence Awards 2020.
