Department of Burns and Plastic surgery
A Separate department of Burns and plastic surgery was started in the year 1992 with a six bedded exclusive burns ward. This was donated by the Rotary International of Canada and established by Rotary Central of Chennai. The President of India, Mr.R.Venkataraman, inaugurated the ward.
Both acute and chronic burn injuries are received in the ward and treated in a state of the art fashion. A total of 912 burns patients have been treated between 1992- 2012, with a mortality of 24% only, which speaks of the excellent care given.
The Plastic and Reconstruction surgery department deals with congenital malformations, trauma, facio-maxillary injuries and other defects.
The Head of the Department of the Burns and Plastic department, Padmashree Prof. K. Mathangi Ramakrishnan is also the chairperson of The CHILDS Trust Medical Research Foundation (CTMRF) which is the research wing of the hospital.
